What is Old Money Style?

In a few words it characterises not only a way of dressing but a whole lifestyle whose roots are in the past from whence inspiration is drawn but whose feet are firmly in the present providing a classic combination of timeless elegance and effortless style which is one of the keys to the classic looks of Old Money Style.

Mr. Davenport considers that there are two main elements which define Old Money Style. The first step in achieving old style elegance is not to look as though one is trying too hard. Style is different for everybody and everybody has their own style but trying to be something you are not is itself unstylish. The whole point about looking stylish is that it looks natural and unforced.

How often have we seen the old and larger gentleman arriving at the Hotel de Paris in their fabulously expensive cars, often with probably fabulously expensive companions, who look like the proverbial sack of potatoes or else they have just been to the most expensive shop they can find and bought something expensive in the belief that the money will do the work and that the expensive garment will do the job for them.

The whole point about style, and the sophistication that it brings, is that style comes from within. You can quite happily be stylish without having to spend big. Having said this, style does require some investment but Mr. Davenport was always taught that it is better to have a few quality items which always do the job on every occasion than lots of cheap and tatty items that fall apart after one or two outings. It is a key element of Old Money Style that quality shines through.

Mr. Davenport will be talking about a range of clothing brands and accessories in future newsletters but the underlying theme is that style comes naturally.
